Pardon me…didn’t mean to…that is…bother…um
Leisure Suit in Pen and Ink
August 27, 2009This drawing is almost bordering on caricature. The man steadied himself with a cane and so wasn’t terribly mobile. I thought he would present the perfect subject; interesting and not terribly active, so plenty of time to study and capture the detail of the facial features and so on. Almost as soon as I started sketching, my pen leaked all over my hands. Sometimes these things are meant to happen. Rather than stop, I just used the ink on my fingers to smear in the background and to denote a little texture on the suit.
Study in line and form
August 25, 2009Lately, have attempted to use line to model form. Finding it harder to than expected. It’s always easier to fall back to old habits and the safety of what you know.
Fuzzy Fleece 2
August 18, 2009This is a different take on the same subject as Fuzzy Fleece Jacket
I was quite taken by this man’s restful air, which seemed to come through in the way he sprawled across the seat and most of the carriage. Some people just command their own space, even when they’re not trying.
Woodentop
May 15, 2009Experiment in representing form through contours – similar to a map. The subject could be carved from a block of wood. I’m quite fond of the effect, which was largely accidental. In the ‘must try again’ category.
