Blue Boardies

An odd ensemble: business shirt and board shorts. The aviator-style sunglasses and ‘tache sort of finished it off for me…

Crowded train

January 21, 2010

I didn’t realise at the time that the lady with the massive sunglasses was reading the newspaper over the shoulder of the man in front. Most of this drawing is one continual line. The hatching on the left is the main exception.

Walcha’s Got Everything (pen and ink wash)

I drew this at the Gunnedah markets, in the same session as the Apple Eater lady. In this instance, the subject was a stall owner who was chatting to a companion. They were lamenting the sorry state of affairs in the locality, whereby the neighbouring town of Walcha allegedly receives every benefit imaginable to mankind while their locality does it hard. I can’t comment other than to say that either is a nice place to visit. Had a flying saucer landed in the middle of the markets, her response would have been, “a bigger one landed in Walcha last week.” Behind it all, she was having the time of her life, though.

In this sketch, I did my best to capture her weathered, somewhat resigned and slightly laconic disposition.

Cool sounds

coolsounds

World’s biggest sunnies. People often wear them on the train while they sleep. Reminds me of Homer Simpson’s ‘awake’ glasses, although I don’t know why.

Alcatraz

alcatraz

Emo-looking young lady reading about Alcatraz on the Northeren Line. I didn’t think anyone would be interested in something so old these days but then, I suppose that’s history for you.

Where’d I put my Sunnies?

where-are-my-sunnies

This man had the archetypical ‘having-a-bad-day’ look about him. Might have had something to do with the floating face that was following him around or maybe he just couldn’t remember where he left his shades.
